So the military parka is totally hot right now, especially with studs ! They are available everywhere...Topshop, Asos, Urban Outfitters...But the prices! WTF? Urban Outfitters sells one jacket for 63 Euros, others not under 50 € and privat second-hand sellers buy them cheap and sell them for similar prices on the internet. That´s kinda ballsy in my opinion when you can buy it for 1/4 of the price in your local NATO-shop!!!
You see, I didn´t let myself get fooled by the greedy hordes of vintage sellers. I did actually go and picked up my 14 Euro german Bundeswehr-jacket at the mentioned store. Another 7 € for golden spike studs and 6 € for an awl and I was prepared for the fun of DIY to come.
The Parka:
The materials:
- golden spike screw studs
- basic awl
It is totally easy to do! So I´ll show you :-)
Step 1:
- Take a black marker pen and mark the points where you wanna make holes for your studs. It gives you a better view on where the studs will sit later on your textile ( for you can create a straight line or constant distances between them).
Step 2:
- Take the awl and make a hole where you chose to set a mark.
The further you push the awl in, to wider the hole will get (sounds kinda perverted... just ignore it! :-) )
Step 3:
- put the screw through the hole.
It looks like this from the other side.
Step 5:
- Put the spiky head of the stud onto the screw-part that stands out of the textile.
Repeat the steps until your jacket is studded the way you please.
And that´s how the jacket looks on me now :-D
I´m a bit disappointed because I didn´t buy enough spikes. I´ll definately stud the shoulder part some more!
I think in the end there will be no real difference between my DIY jacket and the ones that can be bought in common fashion and internet vintage shops atm. - but the price!
